Little Babies
little babies walk around with their little baby laughs…
saying things in gibberish and nodding gleefully at private jokes
yes no maybe so
and off he stumbles, walks, runs, flies in the arms of his father
a little airplane complete with whirring motor and excited wheeeees!
pick me up! say the dirty little arms as they extend toward the clouds
carefully the young one pulls out a plastic wagon, uh-oh
I know what this means
do you want a ride?
a sweet little nod and a forceful yes
squeels of delight from the little train as he goes faster and faster
in my lap he brushes impatiently at the back of his neck
where my hair tickled his soft skin as i leaned over to kiss his head
walking down the road, headed ‘tha-way’, he reaches up to hold my hand
two of my fingers fit in his palm and when i carry him he fits easily on my hip
and gretchen with her harmonica
holds up her 6 year-old knee for me to kiss it better
