Phone Calls

The alternative reality
Of phone calls
Bewilders me completely
Because when we are on the phone
You have me persuaded
To give us another try.
But logic argues
That a second attempt
In our separate condition
Would be feeble at best.
And though I’m sure
You mean every word you say-
I know you shouldn’t.
That doesn’t mean you don’t,
But the fact that you do
Has only hurt you so far.
